Australia, like other democratic countries, are (so it would seem) "too late" and now the Defence Minister, Dutton is asserting that for peace we need to prepare for war because China is militarily on the move and has signed an agreement with the Solomon Islands. Your "facta, non verba" -"deeds not words matter" will be an expression that could resonate worldwide, not just to Putin's invasion of the Ukraine.

I've just seen a video of Putin, looking unsteady and distracted, as he attended an Orthodox Easter Midnight Mass, celebrated by the Russian Orthodox leader who supports him. All of which dashes my hopes that by now he would have been denounced as the Satan he is.

"Facta, non verba — deeds not words matter." I had not heard this expression before, but it certainly resonates with me regarding the current Ukraine situation.

Getting the UN delegation to go to Mariupol is an outstanding suggestion. Early on in this debacle, I wondered why UN Peacekeepers had not been deployed to monitor and protect “safety” corridors. Although that thought was before I read this blog and learned more about how Security Council vetos by Russia torpedoed that thought. When Putin kept redrawing lines on what is or is not an act of war with his statements: “if you supply weaponry, that’s an act of war,” “if you send troops, that’s an act of war,” “if you let Ukraine join NATO, that’s an act of war,” etc…, I thought if UN peacekeepers were on the job, then the UN could call a spade a spade: “if you harm our Peacekeepers that’s an act of war,” and stop with this “special military operation” nonsense.

Yes, it is too late. It's been two months since the February 24th invasion and, in fact, eight years since the war between Russia and Ukraine commenced in 2014.
