I believe the UN had wonderful intentions and did do good work when first put together, but I haven't believed in that organization for decades. IMO, as they grew bigger and bigger and more countries were added, they achieved less and less--all words and no actions. Realistically, that is to be expected, as there is no way to have SO many disparate entities (countries), with such different expectations and governments work together to achieve one goal. Unfortunately, I have seen nothing in their behaviour now that makes me change my mind. Add to that NATO and their reluctance to make a decision to take actions that might actually bring a stop to the fighting and we have a continuing problem with no resolution that would help Ukraine. And because the world wants 'transparency' in everything now, negotiating things that might help Ukraine won't happen behind the scene, either. I wish I had a solution. So very frustrating to have to sit and watch from the sidelines as more people are injured, killed, displaced, livelihoods and homes destroyed. My heart just hurts for everyone.

I am too heartsick even to inflict more of my rage on all here. Thank you, EL, for being willing to immerse yourself in this filth daily to make sure history is recorded. I don't know how you do it. TC

What would happen if a 'stray' missile hit a target in Poland, seems the bombing is very close to the border now? Would intervention then be possible?

Thank you once again EL - I'm one of those you speak of who is almost afraid to turn on the latest news. I don't want a war but I do want 'someone' to do 'something' to help the people who are suffering the loss of family and loved ones while they defend their country from a mad dictator. All I hear is 'talk'. Sadly, I fear history is repeating itself; it's 1939 all over again.

Thank you EL- you must be shattered but Choccy mini rolls are not on ration yet! I don't think sanctions will work either but I really do think that the sanctions imposed on Russia by the UK and US Governments should now include those countries which support Russia. We should also take a good, long and hard look at the foreign aid budget again and prune it severely. We could hold that money in reserve for the next round of Russian atrocities. I fail to see why we should support countries that take our money with the one hand and pat Putin on the back with the other. I believe that the original intention, particularly in Africa, was to prevent those countries falling under the control of Russia or China and that seems to have failed. They got rid of the UK because they didn't want to be a colony and they are now putting themselves under the coercive control of two of the most oppresive states in the world. They may regret this but they needn't expect any help from us in the future.
