Easter is the greatest celebration in Christian churches because it represents a new beginning, a symbol of hope. We must remain hopeful as we think of the Ukrainian people who face the darkness and cruelty of war. I pray for them and try to remain hopeful that Russian aggression will end soon, but the power of reasoning tells me the world war I fear will happen.

A Blessed Easter to all!!!!

On this Easter morning I read this with a heavy heart. Comments below bring tears to my eyes. I know that every single word stated below is true. I will go to Mass at 10am today and reflect and pray for the good people of Ukraine but also the good people of this world. We are in frightening and turbulent times at the moment. Once again, I mention fear. It started 52 days ago and it is growing.

I am trying to draw it mild given that this is Easter weekend, and it has been a spiritual struggle to reconcile my belief that only Might will bring about Right for Ukraine, with the hawkish conviction at odds with the liturgies of Ash Wednesday, Palm Sunday, Good Friday . . . It has been many years since I attended every one.

It is comforting to stand with others to pray for Ukraine: I feel less impotent to help. Just the same, in praying for Ukraine, I know I am praying for war, not peace. No one can be under any illusion that Putin will fail under any other circumstances, or that the longer-term security of the West will be obtained under any other circumstances but weapons to the max. It has been a difficult season on that basis.

If I disappear for days, that is the reason.

I completely agree with EL: the West, as it is, is late to the party here. The evil that is Putin and what he is doing on our doorstep must fail. To fail, the sacrificial lamb, Ukraine, must be given every chance of victory possible. Ukraine's defeat is our defeat. I feel this in every bone in my arthritic body.

Putin's threats of "consequences" are hot air.

We are in a battle for the very soul of the West. TC
