The Grammys and Another UN Security Council Session
While Russia claims the Bucha massacre is fake news, Russia continues to attack Ukraine
When we see history repeating itself, we ask ourselves why are we letting it happen when the outcome is not a good one. Orban continues his reign in Hungary, and it is a little perplexing to say the least if this speaks for the people of Hungary. Hungary has been occupied by Germany and Russia in the past, but was part of the Tripartite Pact in 1941. The recent generations may not remember what life was life being occupied, but you’d think a country that has recently had the opportunity to be independent would support the same for a neighbouring country. Orban’s government has been at odds with the EU and NATO (rejecting many objectives) , but because both bodies want to present a united front they are willing to let it go. Is the country so confident that Russia won’t invade them because they have EU and NATO protection? Hungary is becoming isolated in the EU and NATO through their own choice with the only reason being that they don’t want Hungary to be involved in the war.
Russia has requested an emergency session of the UN Security Council to address what they claim as fake news over the Bucha killings. The bodies are evidence and can’t be moved, and some have been covered to preserve their dignity. Propaganda from Russian trolls claim that the images are fake and that hands had moved in the video or that the images were staged.
No one believes them, yet how many more towns and villages are like Bucha? I have no doubt there are more, where in Kharkiv there are reports of body parts instead so that there is no evidence, making it harder for the ICC to prosecute. Bucha is a crime scene, but we imagine that Mariupol is the same.
At the Grammys, Zelenskyy’s pre-recorded speech was shown, appealing for people to help in anyway they can. I saw some comments from Americans who are getting bored of seeing another Zelenskyy address, and stating that the war has nothing to do with them. This is a stark reminder of the Second World War in the US where people didn’t want to know or cared about the war in Europe. They forget that most of their ancestors came from Europe at one point to seek freedom and independence, and it is too easy to take such things for granted.
Has humanity become so selfish these days where moral responsibility no longer exists?
Today is also the 73rd anniversary of NATO , whatever good that is right now ironically. It is also the 14th anniversary of the Bucharest summit in 2008 where Germany (Merkel) and France (Sarkozy) objected to Ukraine’s membership to NATO. May their decisions haunt them, but some claim it was in a bid to try and appease Russia.
Day 40 (4 April)
Zelenskyy makes an appearance at the Grammys appealing for support.
Russia has requested an emergency UN Security Council meeting today regarding the Bucha allegations, claiming Ukraine has been spreading false information.
Reports claim that Russia is mobilising more troops.
The attempt to evacuate Mariupol continues.
The head of the Russian Orthodox Church supports the actions of Putin, and the Russian army who he claims are trying to bring peace to Ukraine. Patriarch Kirill states that Ukraine and Belarus should return to Russia, and calls the election of Putin as a ‘miracle from God’. As one who had ties with the KGB, he is a supporter of Putin and the special peacekeeping operation in Ukraine.
Zelenskyy is to speak to South Korean lawmakers today.
More Russian propaganda is spread, telling Russians that Ukraine must be eliminated. A translated version of the propaganda article which is terrifying (an approved by the Kremlin) can be found below. Can the UN, EU, and NATO stand back and enable this?
Macron calls for more sanctions as more talks continue. How many more sanctions can they impose as they aren’t making that much difference, as in the aim is to halt the war?
Thank you @EL for the link to the translated propaganda article. It is indeed terrifying. And delusional. Russisans who read that article and believe it, would think that Ukraine was the aggressor in this situation. It makes no sense, and we can only hope that Russians have access to western news articles so they can think for themselves. But if the head of the Russian Orthodox Church supports this insanity, hoping that Russians will think for themselves might be a pipe dream.
As world leaders condemn the savage genocide, China remains silent signifying, 'what's the problem?'.
