Is Moldova In Danger?
The UN 'frank' talks yielded nothing as expected As Putin threatens the West
Antonio Guterres has stated that he is a ‘messenger of peace’ in the press conference he held with Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, adding that he ‘wanted to save lives and reduce suffering’. The latter claims that Russia looks forward to working with the UN and Red Cross in terms of humanitarian aid. This is ironic, given that Russia created the humanitarian crisis, and as for the UN wanting to save lives, they are eight weeks late…
Lavrov has stated that if other countries continue to supply Ukraine with weapons that this could lead to World War III. James Heappey (UK Minister for the Armed Forces) made an unwise statement, claiming that Russia was entitled to bomb and target areas where there were weapons as that is ‘warfare’. This was in relation to the attacks on railway tracks which was to disrupt the distribution of weapons being sent to Ukraine. One must forget that Russia don’t consider this a war, but a ‘special military operation’ with a peacekeeping aim. When one declares war against another country, it then becomes a formality, but I must have missed Russia’s declaration of ‘war’ on Ukraine as they have stated it is not an invasion or war, but a peacekeeping operation to save the Ukrainians from the Nazism.
In Russian eyes they have saved Kherson, whereas the rest of the world (including those in Kherson), the Russians have illegally occupied the region. In Hungary, there also seems to be more Russian disinformation being spread, as Ukrainian refugees are not being welcomed in Hungary.
The UN has and will come under criticism for failing to act sooner. There are other issues too, such as Russia being a member of the Security Council who can veto any action, therefore, technically it renders any UN action against Russia impossible. This is another flaw in the UN charter that needed to modified and updated to reflect society as it is today. At least Guterres accepts that how Russia sees things is different from the majority of the world, and despite him declaring that Russia has violated the UN charters, he still insists on peaceful discussions. The only power they have is to issue sanctions against Russia, and most of the world have already done that.
The day ends with Putin threatening countries that interfere with his plans for Ukraine, and the UN are still trying to work out a safe evacuation plan for those in Mariupol. Guterres states it is complicated—it is, because Russia doesn’t wish to cooperate.
Day 63 (27 April)
Two rockets had been fired into Transnistria region (a pro-Russian breakaway region of Moldova), is said to be a Russian false flag. It is still considered a target area as Russian troops are stationed there, and is only 160km from Odesa, which could lead to Russia encircling the region.
Guterres says that the UN will assist in the Mariupol evacuation—the main sticking point is that Russia don’t want to do this, which is why 6 weeks later there have been numerous unsuccessful attempts to open a safe evacuation corridor. Putin has agreed in ‘principle’ (whatever that means) to the Mariupol evacuation of civilians.
Moldova has expressed concerns, where the Moldovan president (Maia Sandu) is holding security briefings as a defensive measure. This comes after a Russian general has claimed that they aim to take full control of Transnistria, similar to how the Russians view the Donbas region in Ukraine. People have already started to leave the region as images of traffic jams have been reported.
The Friendship Arch that stands in Kyiv, represented cooperation and the ties and friendship between Ukraine and Russia, but the statue will be dismantled, and the arch will carry the colours of the Ukrainian flag. The relationship is over, and any Russian street names will be renamed to remove all traces of anything Russian.
Germany has done a U-turn and will supply some tanks to Ukraine that have been in storage. These will be modified before they are sent. The news comes after the US hosted a meeting of over 40 nations to discuss how aid Ukraine at the Ramstein airbase. Germany will also train Ukrainian soldiers. I wonder if Hungary attended, and if so what they said…
The Ramstein meetings will be held on a monthly basis in order to assess what assistance Ukraine needs.
During the talks Guterres has stated that a ceasefire is necessary… something that we have all been saying for the last two months, and the UN is choosing to act now? He claims that he wants to help provide a situation where negotiations can take place to lead to a peaceful outcome. We all know that is all fairy talk, for there can be no peace while Putin is still in power. Putin doesn’t want peace—he wants the USSR back to how it was in 1990.
Apparently there are more mass graves in Mariupol—sadly we expect this. Reports claim that Ukrainians are made to dig them in exchange for food and water. How did the West allow Mariupol to be destroyed?
Russia suspends gas supplies to Poland and Bulgaria, stating that payment must be in roubles. The Polish President Andrzej Duda, has stated that the "appropriate legal steps" will be taken against Gazprom (the supplier) after it cut off the gas supply to Poland. Bulgaria expected the Russian reaction and has been using more expensive supplies from Greece.
Putin claims there is no longer any Russian military operations in Mariupol. If that were true, then why can’t the Red Cross carry out safe evacuations?
Negotiations between Russia and Ukraine continue but not face to face, but online.
Liz Truss, the Foreign Secretary for the UK has stated that the West need to send fighter jets to Ukraine.
Putin has threatened any country that interferes with the special military operation, and that the action would be swift.
Russia has declared that they expect Ukraine to be split into different countries once the operation is complete.
Putin, "not a war, but peace keeping against nazism". The images of people fleeing, cities reduced to rubble and stories of civilians tortured, murdered; doesn't equate with my understanding of peace. His constant threats of escalating warfare (that is Putin speak, 'peacekeeping') to WW111 if The West provides Ukraine with arms, is an absurd attempt to shift blame. He wants to win Ukraine no matter the cost and have those countries still trading with Russia to pay for 'his so-called peace-keeping' in roubles. I cannot believe his rhetoric! Thank goodness for the patriotic , courageous, defiant Ukrains and their leader, valiant President Zelensky.
The words 'Putin' and 'humanitarian' should never appear in the same sentence. Ironic that Putin is warning others about outside intervention in HIS "special military operation" to invade Ukraine.
