Amnesty International Makes A Half-Hearted Apology For The Ukraine Report
Zelenskyy rules out talks if fake referendums are held in occupied regions
Day 165 (7 August)
Sweden and Canada are sending military instructors to the UK to assist with the training of Ukrainian soldiers. This will be for six months, so the analysts expect the war to get fierce soon, and need the troops to be trained to use the equipment that is being donated.
Four more ships have left Ukraine, two bound for Turkey and the others will travel to China and Italy. The fist ship, the Razoni has not docked in Tripoli as planned, and has been delayed with no reason given. The Joint Coordination Centre in Turkey claims that the ship is a ‘trial’ to see how the plan would work.
Amnesty International has sent a letter to Reuters with a half-baked apology for the Ukrainian report, but they still standby it. They didn't even publish it on a website or distribute it as a press release and left it to Reuters to publish the ‘apology’. With the backlash against the movement, it is hard to see how they can recover. Their research was based on 19 villages and towns in Ukraine, which is hardly representative of the country as a whole. Many regions are made up of hundreds of small villages, and the report was not even essential. This is why NGOs can do more harm than good at times.
“Amnesty International’s priority in any conflict is ensuring that civilians are protected. Indeed, this was our sole objective when releasing the latest piece of research. While we fully stand by our findings, we regret the pain caused.”
"Amnesty International deeply regrets the distress and anger that our press release on the Ukrainian military's fighting tactics has caused,"
"This does not mean that Amnesty International holds Ukrainian forces responsible for violations committed by Russian forces, nor that the Ukrainian military is not taking adequate precautions elsewhere in the country."
"We must be very clear: Nothing we documented Ukrainian forces doing in any way justifies Russian violations."
There is no real apology here, but an acknowledgement that the report did not help anyone but the Russians. They still claim that the Ukrainian army is not taking enough precautions. This has now endangered the lives of civilians as it is a thumbs up now for Russia to attack alleged civilian structures because a human rights movement issued a report claiming that military personnel are in civilian buildings.
I wonder who decided to waste time and money to analyse the Ukrainian troops? Surely they could analyse the Russian troops instead and look at the human rights of the civilians from that position. The downside is that the Russians would probably torture, kidnap, or kill the Amnesty International investigators, which is why they didn’t pursue that avenue. Haven’t AI got better and more useful things to do?
Amnesty International have lost the plot—they are now allegedly claiming that NATO weapons do not reach Ukraine and end up on the black market. They say this because they do not know where the weapons have gone. Why should they as they are a human rights movement and not a military one. As a movement they are not helping Ukraine at all, and all the weapons are tracked. Just because AI’s people don’t know where they are doesn’t mean they are lost. This is classified information that they have no need to know, and have no access to. Each AI release sounds like Russian propaganda, where they don’t stop to think before they speak. Some may say there has been a Russian influence, as AI can’t be that stupid, or perhaps they are?
The Wagner Group (Russian mercenaries) has recruited 1000 prisoners in Russia to fight (cannon fodder) in Ukraine. At least 17 prisons have been visited and , the fist deployment was 3 weeks ago on 20 July 2022. The deal is that the prisoners will be freed if they survive 6 months of fighting.
Ukraine has so far caught 1,600 alleged conspirators/saboteurs/traitors and 100 groups and rings that have betrayed Ukraine. This is the reason why some regions were occupied and attacked so quickly, with inside help and information. This will continue until Russia leaves Ukraine for good, and it has probably been going on since the end of the Cold War
Zelenskyy rules out talks and negotiations with Russia if sham referendums in occupied areas take place. Russia has threatened this for weeks, but they can still annex the regions and rig the referendum.
If what I have just heard is fact; there can be no hope for negotiations! What is Putin's goal? It seems he's aware of the US bombing of Hiroshima and Nagaski, as well as, the 7 decades of consequence; so why threaten exploding the largest nuclear plant in Europe? It is said to be suicidal. Why? Why, do it? Why threaten, even bluff, to do it?
The Amnesty International letter/statement was a non-apology!!
