Ukraine Accused Of Drones Targeting Moscow
The war in Ukraine is getting politically tense, as drones damage buildings in Moscow. Ukraine has not claimed responsibility, but the likelihood is that they are carrying out strikes on military ammunition depots to stall the Russian advances. That is permitted, and the deal with the West is that weapons are supplied as long as they are not used on Russian soil. Therefore, if they used Ukrainian weapons that they purchased themselves, they have not gone against the wishes of the allies.
Odesa has been pounded every day since the end of the Black Sea grain deal, and more than 200,000 tonnes of grain has been destroyed in the past week—how many people will starve, and for those who do have grain, the price will have increased.
We should also look at the complex political situation, where countries that border Ukraine are pushing for more action as the war could easily spill over and NATO or not, bringing back the dead is an act no one can do. Many people know Zelenskyy is a decent chap fighting to save his country, but the danger is when he looks like an autocrat by firing people who don’t say nice things about him or criticise him. He is busy holding meetings to line up reconstruction deals, and his team are preparing for EU and NATO membership by ensuring they fulfil the criteria set out for ascension.
Propaganda plays a large part in the war and by Russia blaming the west, it creates a global disharmony. Can the world trust China when they claim to support peace but are secretly aiding Russia according to reports? Throw in Belarus which was always an extension of Russia, but with the Wagner troops there, has the threat increased due to countries sharing borders with Belarus?
Many observers are concerned that the west and the allies are not doing enough. It is one thing to say they support Ukraine defending themselves, but another to say that they support Ukraine defeating Russia. Defending is one thing, but strategic action to defeat them is another and that is where offensive action must be taken, otherwise the west can keep supplying weapons to defend themselves, but never enough to defeat and oust the Russians and that is what needs to happen for the war to end.
Day 516 (24 July)
Unilever has still not left Russia, stating that it was difficult to exit the country, and if they left, then the Russian state would seize all the assets and control them. The company has stated that if workers were called up for conscription then they would permit it, stating that they will abide by the laws of the country.
Two drones damaged buildings in Moscow close to the ministry of defence, and the other was an ammunitions depot. Neither were residential buildings and the drones attacked around 4 am local time.
Claims that spy antennas are on the Russian embassy in Moldova have been reported, where signals are being used for intelligence purposes.
Since the head of the Belarusian Red Cross admitted to assisting the deportation of children from occupied areas in Ukraine to Russia, the Ukrainian Prosecutor General has launched an investigation, as should the ICRC.
Romania has condemned the Russian attacks on Ukrainian ports of Izmail and Reni that are 200 metres from the Romanian border.
I strongly condemn the recent Russian attacks against the Ukrainian civilian infrastructure on the Danube very close to Romania. This recent escalation pose a serious risk to the security and the Black Sea. (Klaus Iohannis, Romanian President.)
Day 517 (25 July)
Ukraine continues to ‘disrupt’ Russian advances with drones aimed at ammunitions depots in Crimea, which had been used for moving equipment between Russia into Ukraine.
A UNESCO mission team will arrive in Odesa to assess the damage to cultural heritage sites due Russian attacks. They believe that they can take action to restore and preserve the Ukrainian cultural heritage and will seek for Russia to be expelled as a UNESCO member state. As for restoring buildings, that’s hard when the Russians drop drones each day, and do they really think Russia cares about being thrown out as a UNESCO member?
The Ukrainian stamp depicting the Russian warship to ‘Go….’ has won an award (Asiago International Awards for Philatelic Art) suggesting that this globally, humanity consider the attack on Ukraine to be illegal despite what Russian propaganda peddles.
The IAEA has found mines on the outskirts of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant during an inspection. Why are they even surprised? We all know that Russians leave mines everywhere, but what will or can the IAEA do except publish a report?
