Trump 'Very Angry'At Putin As The Ceasefire Deal Fails
No deal, as Russia recruits more 18-30 year old conscripts
Did Trump really expect Putin to roll over and to agree to what he wanted just like that? If he did, then he is truly deluded or simply stupid. Most of the world leaders don’t trust him with good reason, and apparently Trump was ‘very angry’ that Putin did not agree to his plan, and carried on bombing Ukraine.
With news that Russia is recruiting more 18-30 year old conscripts (160,000 reported), Russia is not seeking peace, and the speech he gave in Murmansk (Russia Artic Forum) 27 March 2025, indicated that Russia will take Ukraine, Poland and the Baltic States, and the US can take Greenland, the Panama Canal.
The rare minerals deal with Ukraine hasn’t been signed, and Trump has threatened to stop military aid if Zelenskyy doesn’t sign. Hard to threaten something when no military aid has actually been sent, and Ukraine is depending on Europe and funding to manufacture its own weapons as it is apparent under the current administration that a supply of weapons cannot be guaranteed.
What is clear is that the US cannot be relied upon as an ally, and Trump has stated (I heard him yell it at a reporter) that Ukraine will never be a member of NATO and Zelenskyy has to stop asking for it as part of a deal. It is not for Trump to decide if a country should or should not join NATO, and he has not given any reason why Ukraine cannot join in the future
.
It looks as if Trump being involved as made the situation worse, but it has at least forced Europe to do more, but Europe has other problems, mainly how to control the influx of migrants that is a drain on resources, and Trumps tariffs across the board for imported goods into the US. These are mainly for the car industry and for metals, but tariffs historically backfire when they are used to try and encourage domestic growth.
Europe is cautious and is recommending that citizens prepare themselves for war, and to stock up on tinned goods and toilet roll. The loss of the US as an ally is a concern, especially as it a major trading partner, and the world leaders must juggle and find a balance to keep trade agreements while figuring out how to deal with a country that was once an ally to one that isn’t very supportive of the liberation of Ukraine and to fight for its liberty and independence from Russia.
The latest that the US have said is that they are waiting for Russia to respond to the peace deal they have put on the table. The fact that Russia has said they are prepared for a partial ceasefire only tells us that they have no interest in the peace deal. It’s a case of what’s in it for them. They want the EU to lift sanctions, but the US doesn’t control the EU, and the EU have said no, and that they will not be lifted even during a ceasefire. This is because once lifted, Russia can fund the war again and everyone knows it.
As for Ukraine, they agreed because they had little choice and the US withholding military intelligence as blackmail was low. The US also said they would stop supplying military aid, to be honest the Trump administration halted aid that had already been promised, so it is unlikely that the administration will offer more than what had been agreed during the last administration.
Given the Trump tariffs today (7 April 2025) nicknamed ‘Ugly Monday’ where stock markets across the globe have slumped due to the US imposing tariffs on imports from all countries (bar Russia as they are in negotiations for peace, not that should have anything to do with it) with some countries having a 54% tariff on some goods, while the UK has one of the lowest at 10%. The EU has 20% which may have a knock on effect on how much aid will be available for countries to support Ukraine.
Yes, things are messy and Russia really doesn’t want to negotiate because their idea of negotiating is telling others what they want otherwise they have no interest in discussions. The fact that Russia are rebuilding their army and are still using North Korean soldiers is an indication that they don’t have any intention of scaling down their invasion of Ukraine.
I feel that the Americans thought that they would have wrapped up the war within weeks, but now they are realising they have few cards to play. As for the mineral deal with Ukraine, it hasn’t been signed as they are unfavourable terms for Ukraine, specifying $100 billion worth of rare earth and minerals plus 4% interest, and if the US has exclusivity, it jeopardises Ukraine’s EU membership as part of the agreement is that the EU has favourable terms in mining resources. If Ukraine has to choose between the EU and paying back the US, then the US will have to wait as that was the never the agreement in the first place. No one thought Trump’s administration would ask for all the aid to be refunded, and the Biden government should have put in writing what had to be repaid and what didn’t. EU membership is more important than paying back the US for aid they had previously ‘donated’.
Meanwhile, there are talks and summits aplenty with Europe supporting Ukraine, and the US pushing for a minerals deal, and for Russia and Ukraine to end the war without really caring who loses or suffers. Their simplistic vision of ‘just stop the fighting’ is unrealistic as this is not only about land, but the political in the world.
Day 1124 (24 Mar)
News that the US administration included a journalist by accident while discussing war plans in the Middle East on the Signal app was released, sparking security concerns. Atlantic editor Jeffrey Goldberg had been added accidentally, and during part of the conversation members of the government (including Vance and Hegseth) criticised Europe, stating they were sick of bailing them out and that they were on their own if they needed help. This should convince Ukraine and the other allies that US cannot be relied upon to send further aid.
US and Russia begin talks in Saudi Arabia to discuss the ceasefire peace deal, especially in the Black Sea to ensure safe passage of cargo ships. The talks allegedly last 12 hours with three breaks.
During the talks, Russia has demanded that it has to have full control over the occupied areas which includes the areas where they only have partial control. Russia will not hand back or leave the occupied areas unless they are forced out.
The 10th anniversary of the Minsk agreements which was a Ukraine and Russian negotiated since 5 to end fighting in the Donbas. As we know, these agreements failed as Russian back to militance continue to fight in the area to this day. This had been broken with Germany and France, therefore it is understandable that Ukraine does not want another kind of agreement that will be violated by the Russians.
Russia has told the press that Russia must have full control of the occupied territories in Ukraine and that Russia will solidify this by any means. The areas include Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia.
Ukraine has called for Steve Witkoff to be removed from the negotiations between Ukraine and Russia after he called the four occupied Ukrainian regions the biggest problem in resolving the war. Ukraine cited that these statements were shameful and that Witkoff had no understanding of what he was talking about.
Day 1125 (25 Mar)
Ukraine and Russia agree to implement a ban on targeting energy infrastructure. And the partial ceasefire according to Zelensky should start on 25 March.
Russia gives a list of the energy facilities that should be exempt from strikes during the partial ceasefire and Ukraine does the same. The list includes oil refineries, gas and oil pipelines and storage facilities, power plants, substations and Transformers and also power production facilities.
Russia and Ukraine agree to a ceasefire in the Black Sea, but in the final moments, Russia came back and said that sanctions on banks, insurers and food exporters had to be lifted before the ceasefire could come into force. As the US does not control the EU, Macron on behalf of the EU stated sanctions will not be lifted and will not be discussed as it is a tactic Russia has used before, and breached the Black Sea agreement in the past. Long and short of it, it didn’t happen because Russia imposed new conditions at the last minute.
Zelenskyy said if Russia violates the deal, Ukraine will ask for sanctions and weapons, and will have the right to exert self-defence.
Russia continued overnight attacks on Ukraine, with Ukraine saying this is an indication that Russia was not serious about the ceasefire deal.
Day 1126 (26 Mar)
Russian demands including lifting sanctions on the state agricultural bank Rosselkhozbank and access to Swift. This needed EU approval and it was rejected.
Macron has said that a French-British allegation will travel to Ukraine to discuss the future of the Ukrainian army, and a potential peacekeeping force. The purpose of the visit would be to help prepare the Ukrainian army for the future and to evaluate what is necessary for a peacekeeping/ deterrence mission in terms of number of troops on land and in the air and sea in order to respond to any further Russian threats.
Russia has said that the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant is Russian and cannot be transferred to Ukraine or any other country. It’s quite obvious that Russia will not leave Ukraine unless they are forced out.
Since the partial ceasefire, Russia has already attacked eight energy infrastructure sites in Ukraine.
Russia sentences 23 Azov members to prison, 12 prisoners that have been held in Russia have been jailed between 13 and 23 years and another 11 have been sentenced in absentia as they had been released in prisoner exchanges.
Zaluzhnyi, who is now the Ukrainian ambassador to the UK and who was a former Commander in Chief of the armed forces of Ukraine has said that Article 5 of NATO is ineffective, where it stipulates an attack on one of their allies members should be considered an attack on the entire NATO. This refers to Russian drones and bombs landing in NATO countries, where Article 5 could have been invoked, but NATO advised those countries not to as there was no evidence that Russia had targeted and attacked them.
Day 1127 (27 Mar)
Ukraine has received a new version of the mineral agreement from the US, and the parliament will decide whether or not to approve the new draft.
Putin has announced that he proposes the introduction of a interim administration in the parts of Ukraine that are currently occupied. Furthermore, he states that these administrations should be endorsed by the United Nations in order for elections to be held leading to a peace agreement. He made this comment joy a visit to the nuclear submarine Arkhangelsk , as stated this is one of the proposals he has put forward to the US, Europe and Russian partners and friends. He further sights that examples of interim governments that the UN has endorsed has worked for example Yugoslavia and claims that this should be done in Ukraine
.
Macron hosts another Ukraine Summit in Paris to show that Europe backs Ukraine. At the summit there were 31 countries that gathered to discuss support for Ukraine. Called the ‘coalition of the willing’ Macron and Starmer said that they would support Ukraine with or without the US. They also agreed that a ‘reassurance force’ could be sent in the event of ceasefire.
Day 1128 (28 Mar)
Russia says that they reserve the right not to comply with the 30 day ceasefire on energy facilities, because Ukraine violates the agreement by attacking the energy sector. The truth is that Ukraine did stop targeting oil refineries but Russia is claiming that the Ukrainian Army does not follow the orders of the Ukrainian leadership therefore Russia could still be attacked by the Ukrainians. It's a very weak argument but Russia seems to want to use it as an excuse for them to continue to attack energy infrastructure in Ukraine.
The White House dismisses Putin's proposal of a temporary government in Ukraine. This is Putin's way to try and legitimise the occupied territories by attempting to get the UN to endorse the transitional administration.
The US has decided it will no longer fund a program tracking Ukrainian children who have been abducted. It had been announced that the US would provide short-term funding to the initiative after the termination of the program.
An announcement was made stating that British and French military officials were meeting in Ukraine to discuss potential deployment of foreign troops to the country, as part of a reassurance force
.
Ukraine has said it will not sign a minerals deal with the US if it compromises and threatens its Ascension to membership of the EU. The latest draft of the agreement includes terms that would give the US unprecedented control over Ukrainian natural resources through a joint investment fund and whether the US would not have to contribute anything to the fund. Such a clause would restrict and affect Ukraine's economic sovereignty and contradict the charter of the EU.
Day 1129 (29 Mar)
The US has reversed its decision temporarily on closing the US initiative that assisted in documenting Russian war crimes, that included the massive abduction of Ukrainian children. This is because US intelligence has satellite imagery, biometric data and the digital tools to help establish the whereabouts of the missing children and would aid the documentation of war crimes.
Ukraine strikes a border checkpoint in Bryansk in order to try to disrupt drone attacks and to destroy military infrastructure.
Russia has claimed it has captured Veselivka, a village in Sumy that lies within the border with Russia.
Ukraine has made requests to alter the new mineral deal to clarify how the reconstruction fund would operate. From what we know the mineral deal isn't a good one for Ukraine at all because Ukraine gets nothing in return but a promise that the US would support Ukraine with aid. However, this is a slippery government so what they deem aid may not be what Ukraine considers actual aid.
Day 1130 (30 Mar)
At the Artic Forum in Murmansk, Putin reiterates that Ukraine must accept its fate that Russia will reacquire the territory. The media fails to report on this because it would make the peace talks redundant.
The Trump government has fired nearly all the staff at the US Peace Institute that has been playing an active role in mediating conflicts and assist with peace negotiations around the world, and that includes Ukraine.
Day 1131 (31 Mar)
Trump is ‘very angry’ at Putin because he has not agreed to his peace deal, and expected this to be like his business deals to be wrapped up.
Trump then claims that Zelenskyy wants to back out of the minerals deal and says that if he does that he's got some problems big big problems. It's not a matter of Ukraine wanted to back out of the deal but they need to negotiate better terms for Ukraine because the US deal offer them nothing, no guarantees and basically it's merely to pay back aid for a war that is still going on.
The third anniversary of the Bucha massacre when the Ukrainian troops liberated Bucha, and Zelensky and other foreign politicians visit the area to honour those who died.
Put in unveils the largest conscription campaign for 14 years in Russia, seeking to draft 160,000 men.
The Weimar group has pledged more aid to Ukraine, and two consider new Russian sanctions. Foreign ministers from Spain, Germany, France, Italy, Britain and Poland have called upon Russia to agree to the ceasefire deal.
Day 1132 (1 Apr)
Russia submitted evidence of Ukrainian ceasefire violations to the U.S., the U.N., and OSCE, and Ukraine submitted the Russian violations, even though only Ukraine agreed to the ceasefire, the fact is that the ceasefire isn’t active and doesn’t seem to be working when Russia shows no intention of stopping any attacks on Ukraine.
Russia launches 74 drone strikes across Ukraine, where 41 were shut down by air defence systems. From this weekend deduce that Russia is not particularly interested in the ceasefire deal. Among the target was a power facility in Kherson leaving 45,000 people without electricity. Part of the deal was not to target energy infrastructure, therefore Russia has already violated any goodwill of the ceasefire deal.
Russia has said it will not accept the US proposals on the ceasefire deal in its current form.
In the UK, it will be a requirement for everyone working for Russia to register their activities in order to protect the country against harmful covert activities through
Day 1133 (2 Apr)
Reports state that Pete Hegseth (the US Secretary of Defense) will not attend the next Ramstein meeting on 11 April 2025 in Brussels. This will be the first meeting without a US presence, and Hegseth will not attend virtually either. The new administration are making it clear that they have a different foreign policy to the previous government as they begin to isolate themselves from supporting Ukraine.
Reports claim that NATO assets could be used for funding peacekeeping missions in Ukraine, or called reassurance forces.
Ukrainian forces have advanced 3 to 4 km inside Belgorod, where aim appears to be at diverting Russian forces that are pushing Ukrainian troops out of Kursk.
Allegedly, Fico of Slovakia and Orban of Hungary, both members of NATO and the EU, have been speaking secretly with Putin according to sources within the Kremlin who have told the Serbian president.
Day 1134 (3 Apr)
The UK has proposed establishing a joint European fund to rearm the continent. This would be to purchase military equipment through a joint European military fund. This would be the start of a sort of European army that's many have opposed but it's clear without American support that Europe needs to work together to ensure that Russia is not a threat.
Hungary has exited the ICC off Benjamin Netanyahu arrived in Budapest. The ICC had issued an arrest warrant for him concerning alleged war crimes in Gaza and signatories to the Rome Treaty are obliged to arrest him.
Day 1135 (4 Apr)
Germany has been paying for Ukrainian access to the French company Eutelsat (1000 terminals), as an alternative to Starlinks for a year. However, they are not a substitute for Starlinks that have over 50,000 terminals
The US has said Russia has not agreed to a ceasefire, but is proposing a partial truce, however, Russia has violated the proposals already, indicating that they are playing for time and have no intention of any genuine peace talks.
A Kremlin negotiator, Kirill Dmitriev has been visiting countries (including the US) to try to push for the release of frozen Russian assets, in order to fund the invasion of Ukraine.
Rather than target oil refineries as per the ceasefire deal, Ukrainian drones have targeted fibreoptic factories near Moscow instead.
Russia still has not responded to the American ceasefire deal, and NATO representatives have also demanded a response from Putin as Ukraine has already agreed to the terms.
Another meeting of the ‘coalition of the willing’ is held in Ukraine.
Day 1136 (5 Apr)
In Kyiv, French and British army chiefs arrived in Ukraine as a military deployment of advisers to Ukraine and to discuss possible troop deployment. Russia had originally called this a provocation, but the two countries have said they would provide peace/reassurance troops if necessary during a ceasefire, even though Russia has objected to this. If Russia keeps its word, then they have nothing to fear from the peacekeeping troops.
Putin has issued a decree stating that Ukrainians living in occupied territories must submit to Russian law by 10th September 2025 or they will face punishment.
Day 1137 (6 Apr)
Zelenskyy has called for a tougher western response after Russia attacked Kyiv with missiles again. The problem is with the peace negotiations going on, the premises that there will be peace soon, as many believe Russia is merely stalling for time and will continue attacks on Ukraine, while Ukraine must refrain from any offensive measures as per the peace deal agreement.
The latests draft of the minerals deal between Ukraine and the US contains issues that would jeopardise Ukraine's application to join the EU, and would also threaten the Ukrainian sovereign control over its natural resources. Some of the conditions state that 4% interest must be paid on top of the $100 billion dollars that the US is demanding as repayment. In the draft it also prohibits Ukraine from selling mineral resources to American competitors which would include the EU, which is a condition of EU membership permitting fair competition within the resource sector. Also, Ukraine would only earn profits from its own resources after it has paid back what is owed to the US. Therefore, the latest draft is full of conflicts of interests and doesn't guarantee Ukraine any further aid from the US.
Day 1138 (7 Apr)
Russia makes the same excuse not to agree to the 30 day ceasefire, stating there are questions that have not been answered, basically Russia is stating Ukraine needs to be demilitarised.
"These questions are hanging in the air, and so far, no one has given answers to them,"
..the lack of control over the Kyiv regime and to the inability of the Kyiv regime to control the actions of a number of extremist nationalist units that simply do not obey Kyiv." (Peskov)
Russian forces are trying to secure ground west of Oskil River in Kupiansk, therefore, are continuing to invade Ukraine to gain more territory.
Putin has made a fool of Trump as anyone with half a brain always knew he would. Brains don’t seem to be too much in evidence in the White House at the moment.
