The day after the Kerch Bridge suffered damage from an explosion, and Putin finally makes a statement, calling it an act of terrorism and points the finger at the Ukrainian Secret Service, and other foreign states.
As an outsider, we have Ukraine calling Russia a terrorist state for attacking civilian infrastructure, capturing and torturing citizens, and brutally murdering some victims for the last 7 months. Then Russia calls the attack or perhaps it was an accident on the Kerch Bridge a terrorist act, despite the fact that the bridge was built illegally on territory that was illegally occupied.
The world watches to see how Russia will react, and the nervous NATO members, especially the US hope they don’t have to go to war.
Day 228 (9 October)
Russia has increased security on the Kerch Bridge after the explosion yesterday. The official cause has not been released as investigations continue. It is thought to have been a bomb inside a van that was detonated remotely, but it is too early to say, as everyone asks, ‘Whodunnit?’ A man in southern Russia is being questioned in connection with the incident, and his home in Krasnodar is being searched. It is likely that whatever group was responsible for the explosion, had some assistance from Russians who are anti-Putin.
The bridge was a crucial supply route for Russia to transport weapons and stolen grain to and from Crimea. Divers are checking the underwater damage and parts of the damaged bridge are submerged in the water.
Zelenskyy on the Kerch Bridge explosion:
Today was not a bad day and mostly sunny on a state’s territory. Unfortunately, it was cloudy in Crimea although it was also warm.
Other members of the Ukrainian government posted comments that wished Putin a Happy Birthday, offering the Kerch Bridge explosion as a birthday gift.
Ukraine’s second largest bank, Monobank, has issued a debit card with an image of the Kerch Bridge collapsed, hot on the heels of the Post Office releasing a stamp of the explosion.
The Zaporizhzhia attack has a death toll of 17, with 49 injured. Meanwhile, the beleaguered nuclear plant has no external energy and is being run on diesel emergency back up power.
Reports claimed that Russia is trying to buy ammunition using Belarus as a third-party. It is claimed that they are attempting to buy artillery shells, mortar mines and rocket launcher systems. This is because many countries have impose sanctions against Russia so they are unable to obtain parts for weapons, and it was expected that they would try and use Belarus, which is why Belarus should also have sanctions imposed against them.
Estonia’s Prime Minister, Kaja Kallas, has reiterated that the West must not negotiate with Putin. She has also stated that Russians who are fleeing Russia so they do not have to do serve in the army cannot seek asylum in Estonia. She urges other countries to continue to send Ukraine weapons, and reminds them that Estonia was one of the first countries to send Ukraine weapons before the invasion on the 24th of February 2022. As one of the Baltic states that is affected by what Russia chooses to do, she has also criticised France and Germany for their attempts of appeasement earlier this year. Whilst we know that this was probably connected to the Minsk protocols that failed miserably, once people started dying, it was time to send weapons to Ukraine rather than call Putin every week
Putin on the Kerch Bridge explosion:
This is a terrorist attack aimed at destroying critical Russian civilian infrastructure.
Putin will hold a meeting with his Security Council to discuss the Kerch Bridge incident, and how this managed to happen.
And so the retaliation begins. Bombing of Ukrainian cities and towns in the west of Ukraine felt Putin’s fury overnight and the people within them suffered for it.
It appears that 'mobilisation' doesn't include politicians families and only a few in St Petersberg and Moscow to avoid protest, however, the ethnic minorities from poorer regions are not so lucky. It is also interesting to learn that China ignored Putin's birthday and denigrating Russia by calling the war effort as a 'weak goose'. One Ukraine forced to fight for Russia or be gaoled for eight years had not been paid for five months. I realise propaganda on both sides, nonetheless, when persuasive speakers within Russia call the senior military leaders and politicians as 'cowardly sheep', you know morale is low. M.M. we know Putin isn't rational, especially claiming Ukraine committed 'an act of terrorism', so the fear of resorting to going nuclear because Russia seems to be losing.
