The Chinese 12 Point 'Peace Plan' Appears To Benefit Russia
The allies increase the number of tanks to be supplied to Ukraine
Day 367 (25 February)
Canada, Germany and the Netherlands have all decided to increase the number of Leopard 2 tanks to be sent to Ukraine. This might be to help Ukraine win the war faster and then the issue of fighter jets won’t have to be discussed. No one seems keen on spending that kind of money on supplying aircraft, or to risk Russia claiming it is an act of provocation, so send more tanks instead.
The EU approved a 10th round of sanctions against Russian entities. It seems that even if Hungary objects, there is a way to get around that as it has been done before.
The World Bank has approved another round of funding for Ukraine. The $2.5 billion grant will assist Ukraine’s government to continue to function, and is released under the World Bank’s, Public Expenditures for Administrative Capacity Endurance in Ukraine (PEACE) Project.
Lithuania has raised €14 million to purchase air defence radars for Ukraine. These will be used to monitor the airspace, and the fundraiser was organised by Lithuanian National Radio and Television broadcasting in conjunction with other Lithuanian organisations on 30 January 2023, and had hoped to raise €5 million.
Guatemala has stated that they will support the setting up of a Special International Tribunal for the alleged war crimes carried out by Russians in Ukraine. This is the first Latin American country to offer the support publicly, and hopefully it will encourage other countries to support Ukraine rather than being neutral.
When asked about comments made by Russia taking control of Belarus in 2030, Lukashenko did not deny that such plans existed, and said they may have been written 3 years ago. Belarusians should be worried that their leader isn’t denying that Russia may have plans for Belarus to officially become part of the Russian Federation.
The G20 finance summit in India ended with China and Russia disagreeing with the closing statement that included condemning the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and the rejection of the use of nuclear weapons. The summary was endorsed by 18 delegates only. India refused to state whether they condemned the war either.
China’s 12 point peace plan has been heavily criticised as favouring Russian interests. It does not state that Russian troops should leave Ukraine, nor did it condemn the invasion. Even fence sitter Scholz has criticised the plan, as it does not propose to end the war, but seeks a ceasefire and the end of sanctions to encourage peace talks.
I've seen nothing in the plan that would indicate that there is something that would be beneficial to anyone other than Russia, if the Chinese plan were followed. (Biden)
There was no comment from the Kremlin on the anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Analysts claim this is because the objectives of the special military operation have not been achieved, and that there is nothing of worth to announce.
Erdogan of Turkey has called Putin recently, after speaking with Zelenskyy. While Turkey is dealing with its own tragedy of the deaths from the earthquakes and many displaced and homeless people, Erdogan is a poor choice to be a peace broker between Ukraine and Russia.
Reports claimed that France, Germany and the UK are suggesting a defence pact with Ukraine that would appear to look as if there are ties with NATO. The idea is that this would encourage Ukraine to begin peace talks with Russia, however, the idea seems rather pointless because it is Russia, who don't want to hold any peace talks. Instead, Russia has made a series of demands that they wish Ukraine to submit to, and if they don't, then they aren't interested in any discussions.
More Russian propaganda, where it is claimed that Moldova or NATO, or preparing to attack, Transnistria (which is a breakaway conflict zone in Moldova). However, this appears to be a move by the Russians so that they can invade Moldova, and intelligence from several sources confirm that Russia has plans to create false flag situations to invade the country that is not a member of NATO or the EU, but has applied to be members of the EU. Moldova retains its neutral status, but has said it will seek to have greater ties with NATO. Besides the fact, Moldova knows it can’t join NATO until the Transnistra issue is settled.
Currently Russia has occupied 1,877 Ukrainian cities and villages. This was stated by Zelenskyy whilst speaking at the a Ukrainian solidarity event, hosted by the German government.
At a Moscow event, two Ukrainian children who had been abducted from Mariupol, were being used as pure by the Russian media.
The mother had been killed in Mariupol, and the children were illegally taken to Russia.
The day after Poland had delivered Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, Russia suddenly stopped supplying oil to Poland, through the friendship (Druzhba) pipeline which had been exempt from sanctions.
Reports claim that the Russians have set up a torture chamber in occupied Vasylivka in Zaporizhzia.
Day 368 (26 February)
Ukraine has issued a new stamp to mark the first anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. It uses the image of Putin being thrown in a judo move, as created by Banksy which is a mural in Borodyanka in Ukraine.
Brazil have put themselves forward as peace mediators, but like Erdogan it looks like they seek political power on a world scale. By suggesting that countries such as China, and India are involved in mediation indicates that he has Russian interests at heart. Hardly credible given that he has suggested countries who support Russia or who claim to be neutral as mediators.
Russian commentators have stated on Russian state television that the country needs a lend lease agreement from China to continue fighting in Ukraine. Obviously this is a concern, and with China, seeking closer ties with Russia, and failing to condemn the war, the intelligence suggests that there may be in agreement for China to supply weapons to Russia for to use against Ukraine.
Putin is claiming that the West has been plotting to take over Russia, and to break up Russia. It’s scaremongering, with him claiming that Russian people as a race may not survive if divided into regions. There is zero evidence of this propaganda aimed at scaring the Russians into supporting him, and to hate the West. The West has no interest in Russia, but has traded there because Russians like western goods and services.
Elon Musk has carelessly claimed that the Revolution of Dignity, which was a protest by the Ukrainians against the corrupt government was a coup. Yes, there was a coup, but it was by the government to handover Crimea to the Kremlin, but not by the citizens of Ukraine.
Kherson has been attacked 78 times in 24 hours, targeting residential buildings. A mural by Konstantin Kachanovsky with the words ‘Russia–will never be here’. This might be a futile attempt by Russia to retake Kherson after the humiliating retreat in November 2022.
Reports claimed that 180 political prisoners are being illegally held in occupied Crimea, according to Ukraine's human rights ombudsman.
Croatia is sending 14 helicopters that it's had promised to Ukraine within the next 10 days. Such announcements are made public to encourage other countries to send equipment and weapons to Ukraine, and also act as a message to Russia, that the allied countries will continue to supply weapons to Ukraine
In occupied Mariupol, reports claimed that the Russians will be demolishing, a historical 19th century Greek Street. The Russians are determined to destroy anything that is Ukrainian and that represents independence
Today is the anniversary of the invasion of Crimea by the Russians called the Day of Resistance to the Occupation of Crimea. In a speech Zelenskyy has stated that the aim is to liberate Crimea and return Crimea’s to Ukraine and to install peace.
Kazakhstan has stated that it supports the Chinese peace plan, where Beijing seeks a political settlement. The plan itself is quite basic, and are points that the world has been asking Russia to do as they are the ones who have breached the issues that can be rectified.
The 12 point plan includes the following but does not crucially mention the withdrawal of Russian troops in occupied regions:
• The sovereignty of all countries is respected ~ mentioned because China seek control of Taiwan.
• Abandoning the Cold War mentality ~ a message to NATO to stop expanding and to stop supplying military aid to Ukraine.
• Ceasing hostilities ~ Ukraine to stop firing on the Russians?
• Resuming peace talks ~ Russia doesn’t want to talk though, they want Ukraine to agree to their demands.
• Resolving the humanitarian crisis ~ Pretty much an obvious point but given China’s poor record on human rights what standards are they looking at? Russia has created the crisis.
• Protecting civilians and prisoners of war (PoWs)
• Keeping nuclear power plants safe ~ Again, obvious, but it is Russia who is making them unsafe by using them as military bases.
• Reducing strategic risks
• Facilitating grain exports ~ Russia has created obstacles by blocking the routes and dragging their feet in alleged inspections.
• Stopping unilateral sanctions ~ This benefits Russia only with no guarantee that they will attend genuine discussions for peace.
• Keeping industrial and supply chains stable
• Promoting post-conflict reconstructionn
I am sure China had Taiwan in mind in the Peace Plan to respect the sovereignty of all countries.
