Saudi Arabia Hosts Summit On The Ukrainian Peace Formula
Ukraine reiterates that ammunition and fuel depots in Russia are legitimate military targets under international law, as are structures and vessels that facilitate the movement of equipment that is intended to harm Ukraine.
What is the situation? It seems that the allies are willing to support Ukraine by providing what weapons they can spare, and to offer humanitarian aid as well as training so that troops can use the donated weapons. That seems to be the status quo— offer limited assistance for as long as Ukraine has an army. What will happen when there are insufficient soldiers available, as an influx of weapons is hardly useful? Will NATO be forced to act, or will an act of provocation in Poland or Lithuania make that decision for them?
Day 528 (5 August)
A drone took out an ammunition depot in Zatytseve (Donetsk). The Freedom of Russia Legion has claimed responsibility for the incident.
In Kupiansk (Kharkiv), a guided air bomb damaged a blood transfusion unit. Zelenskyy states that this is an act of terrorism, yet the UN and other alliances remain silent.
A Russian SIG oil tanker was damaged by a sea drone as it carried fuel for the Russian army in Crimea and Syria near the Kerch Strait. This is considered a legitimate military target, although Russia claims it is an act of terrorism, and was a joint special operation between the SBU (Ukraine security service) and the Navy.
In Chernihiv, a village head has been detained by the FSB for preventing the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The Ukrainian national bank has issued a new 10 Hrynia coin with an image of a patriot air defence system with the words, “Air defence is a reliable shield of Ukraine” inscribed
Ukraine has stated that the waters of 6 Russian ports are a military threat, which means that Ukraine is likely to launch drone attacks. The warning was given so that people could avoid the areas; Anapa, Taman, Sochi, Tuapse, Gelendzhik and Novorossiysk. While it does give Russia a heads up as to where attacks might take place, it is balanced with the need to be responsible and to avoid civilian casualties who may use the ports to stray into them.
Saudi Arabia hosted a summit of 40 neutral countries to participate in talks about the Ukrainian peace formula. The meeting was held in Jeddah. where Russian Medvedev said that ‘Kyiv should beg Moscow for mercy.’
There were different views, but all participants demonstrated their countries commitment to the principles of the UN charter, international law, and respect for sovereignty, and inviobility of the territorial integrity of states. (Andriy Yermak, head of the President’s Office for Ukraine)
Day 529 (6 August)
The Motherland Monument has had the Soviet sickle replaced with a Ukrainian coat of arms. This is symbolic that there can be no forgiveness for Russia this time and there is no turning back.
More strikes on bridges, this time Arabat Split that joins Kherson and Crimea.
According to Russian news sources, China has been producing and selling drones to Russia, but have done so by disassembling them to avoid sanctions and to avoid detection. This story has been circulating for a number of months and China denies it, but we have seen that many drones have components from allied countries without their knowledge, and if there is proof as sources state, then China will have lost credibility, besides the face their record for telling the truth is poor.
Day 530 (7 August)
Ukraine admits to the strikes made on bridges that connect Crimea to Russia and occupied areas. The Chonghar bridge and another bridge that links Crimea and Henichesk.
Reports claim that properties in occupied Mariupol are being marketed to Russians, advertising the properties as near the sea. Russia is demolishing buildings and are building new ones and are selling them to Ukrainians left in the region and to Russians with the aim to populate the area. What is the UN doing about this illegal act? Pretty much nothing as the world allowed Crimea to be annexed and populated by Russians, the same is happening to Mariupol.
Russians are making it difficult for Ukrainians to claim properties (if their property was damaged or destroyed), claiming that if they own any other land or property they are not entitled to any compensation. Apparently, a woman owned a shed out of town and that made her ineligible for compensation for a new home as hers had been destroyed.
