Kyiv Hit On The 90th Anniversary Of The Holodomor
The war in Ukraine continues, but will the support for Ukraine from the allies increase or stall? In the Netherlands, there has been another change in government with Geert Wilders, a right wing leader winning the recent elections. In the past year, the UK, Finland, Poland, Slovakia, Italy, and now the Netherlands have changed their leaders since the invasion by the Russians in February 2022. In the case of Italy, it meant more support, but in the case of Slovakia it has meant a halt on all military aid to Ukraine. Every tank and jet counts.
It is hard to get to grips with the war, for there has been so much corruption in Ukraine that enabled the invasion to take place. I asked a friend who has friends in Ukraine, and they claim that some people were not free to leave Ukraine and that they are afraid of the current regime. Perhaps that’s why people think, and that under the Russians life could be better, yet we have seen in Mariupol and Kherson that have been occupied that life is not better, and people are being forced to relinquish they Ukrainian citizenship to become Russian in order to have access to medicines and basic amenities.
Zelesnkyy has asked his defence team to come up with a new plan, and one of the problems is that Zelenskyy is busy meeting with all these companies to broker deals to rebuild Ukraine, and people aren’t happy about it because first and foremost, Ukraine is still battling the Russians. It’s far too early to put into place plans to rebuild places that have been destroyed because Russia will just destroy more until they are ousted. Common sense would tell you it is a waste of funding, and what about the value of life? Reports claims that over 650,000 men left Ukraine to avoid mobilisation, and that’s just the figures that have been documented. I can understand why the world might be apprehensive about supporting a country when its own men don’t want to fight to defend it (perhaps out of selfishness, knowing that the chances of dying are high due to inadequate military equipment?). It also shows the failure of Ukraine an its inability to carry out mobilisation, and the fact is they were unprepared for a Russian attack and many of the men knew it and fled. Only in time will history judge their actions, but today there is less loyalty to the country and Ukrainian men who chose to dodge the army will have to answer to their own people one day.
Day 639 (24 Nov)
Reports claimed that at least 650,000 Ukrainian men left Ukraine to avoid mobilisation. This does not include men who have falsified medical documents to avoid being conscripted into the army all those who left prior to the invasion in February 2022.
More corruption, as reports state that 500 tons of humanitarian aid was concealed in Zaporizhzhia, whether it was negligent or intentional will have to be determined by the authorities.
The Latvian president, Edgars Rinkevics visited Kyiv and met with Zelenskyy.
The Lithuanian prime minister Ingrid Simonyte visited Kyiv and paid her respects to fallen soldiers.
Fico, the Slovakian, prime minister visited Prague and stated that the war in Ukraine is a frozen conflict and it cannot be solved by sending arms to Ukraine. This is in line with his position not to send any military aid to Ukraine. However, private contractors may continue to send aid to Ukraine from Slovakia. What Fico fails to state, or perhaps he is aware of, is that by failing to support Ukraine, it enables and strengthens Russia.
Geert Wilders, a far right political has won the Dutch elections and is likely to become the new Prime Minister. The Netherlands has been a staunch supporter of Ukraine and with a new leader it is an unknown quantity as to whether their support will continue.
Aleksandr Dosyagaev, has been identified as the Russian commander who ordered the butcher massacre in March 2022.
The EU has approved $980 million worth of funding to Hungary. It appears this in order to appease them as a quid quo pro due to the objections to EU funding for Ukraine, and also Ukraine is ascension to the EU as a member. Charles Michel is to visit Budapest to discuss matters with Orban, who everyone knows is a Putin puppet, but the EU is too weak to do anything about it.
Day 640 (25 Nov)
On the 90th anniversary of the Holodomor (death by hunger), Kyiv was hit with 75 drones. The air defence systems managed to take down 74 of them. At least Ukraine has some defence systems due to the allies, but it is not enough to defend oneself if one wishes to defeat the enemy. They must have an offensive tactic and we know that Ukraine neither. has the weapons of manpower, and that is why this war in lingering on.
The EU will provide $55 million to help repairs the Ukrainian ports.
The Swiss president, Alain Berset visited Kyiv and met with Zelenskyy to discuss the use of frozen Russian assets, and other ways to support Ukraine while maintaining their neutral status. He also attended the International Summit on Food Security, which is essentially about the grain exports and how to export the products due to the Black Sea being targeted by the Russians.
Day 641 (26 Nov)
Lego in conjunction with United 24 have launched Lego sets that feature monuments in Ukraine and include the Motherland monument and the old water tower in Mariupol. Proceeds will go towards the reconstruction of Kyiv.
Zelenskyy has said that after the Grain from Ukraine Summit (International Summit on Food Security) in Kyiv, it has been agreed that the partners will escort ships into the sea to ensure they are safe.
The head on NATO’s JSEC (Joint Support and Enabling Command) Lt Gen Sollfrank is calling for a military Schengen that would allow rapid troop deployments in the region of counter, potential Russian threats. Somehow, I don't think Hungary or Slovakia at present, would agree to this move.
