Amnesty International Spreads Misinformation That Supports Russian Propaganda
Tensions rise in Asia as China carried out military drills as a veiled threat
Tensions arise in Asia after Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, whether it is coincidental or not, no one will ever know. China has begun a series of what they claim to be essential military drills, however, some missiles have landed in Japanese waters, and are on the border of the Taiwanese waters. Japan have called on China to cease the drills as it has caused their ships to divert, leading to unnecessary delays. China has also cancelled a meeting with Japan after their statement on Ukraine during the G7 summit (Japan supported Ukraine along with the other members of the G7 in their fight for democracy).
Each day I come across stories from survivors who have escaped or who have been released from captivity, those who watched loved ones die. I saw a clip of a Ukrainian soldier coming home and being greeted by his son. I thought to myself, how many never made it back because they were fighting so that their children can have a future that is free with hope? The Ukrainian soldiers did not choose to fight, they have no choice but to fight for their country. The Russian soldiers the other hand can choose not to fight—they have a choice, and their liberties are not under threat.
Day 162 (4 August)
Amnesty International have come under heavy criticism from the Ukrainian government and their own supporters around the world. The NGO is supposed to support human rights, yet they claim Ukraine is responsible for civilian deaths by having bases in civilian areas. That is not true, as the Russians have targeted civilian areas, such as shopping centres, bus stops, schools, and churches. It is Russia that has established ammunition bases in such buildings to protect themselves from attacks. They claim that this violates ‘international humanitarian law’ as civilians become targets which is the propaganda Russia is spreading. It’s a pity Amnesty didn’t speak up when the Mariupol soldiers were being held hostage in the steelworks, they did practically nothing there.
Supporters around the world have urged people to stop donating to Amnesty as they spread harmful propaganda that feeds into the Russian narrative. While the Ukrainian government has tried to evacuate people, some simply won’t leave their homes.
.
Russians have used the Amnesty ‘report’to spread propaganda, and the NGO has tried to balance this with a tweet stating they consider the war is an Russian act of aggression.
The former Chancellor of Germany, Gerhard Schroder, who has Russian ties has claimed that Russia seeks to negotiate with Ukraine to end the war. Schroder is Putin’s friend, and met with him at the end of July, and has refused to criticise him or the actions of the Russians.
Brittney Griner, an American basketball player has been convicted of smuggling drugs in a Russian court. She was caught leaving the country with cannabis vapes in her luggage, and cannabis is illegal in Russia. Her sentence is 9 years, and she is probably going to be used as a political pawn between the US and Russia. In this case, Griner was at fault and these careless actions lead to dire consequences on an international scale. She admitted to the charge, but claims she didn’t know how they got in her luggage because she packed quickly.
United24, the fundraising initiative set up by Zelenskyy earlier this year has purchased a helicopter (MI-2AM-1) to evacuate the seriously wounded to hospital.
NATO via Stoltenberg has stated that Russia cannot be allowed to win the war, as it means violence and bullying wins. He also stated that neighbouring countries would be next on Russia’s hit list.
NATO members have recently been ratifying the Swedish and Finnish membership applications, where the US voted 95-1 with one lone opposer who didn’t seem to understand what NATO was about.
Ukraine alleges that Russia has stolen 650,000 tonnes of grain from occupied regions in Ukraine, worth over $200 million. Around 15 ships were used, and some were registered in Syria, who is a Russian ally.
Another civilian target was hit in Donetsk (Toretsk) where a missile hit a bus stop killing eight people.
India has been buying more fertiliser from Russia, which defeats the purpose of the sanctions imposed against Russia when countries like India and China are supporting them by trading with them. This creates an issue as the Western sanctions have less of an effect on the Russian economy, which means they are less inclined to halt the war.
It's shocking and disgraceful that AMNESTY International is spreading false propaganda claiming Ukraine is responsible for the deaths of Ukrainians, which Russia is further spreading.
Thanks again to E-L for the further up-date. Locally we are not getting "news" in such detail.
